Laying tiles
Laying joint covers
Even tile coverings that appear to be rigid are subject to expansion forces. Although these are imperceptible to the human eye, they can cause serious damage resulting in cracked joints or even broken tiles. The tile floor loses its finish and water can penetrate uncontrollably, leading to subsequent damage.
The joint covering profile is a T-shaped transition profile that is used between two adjacent floors. It is pressed into the joint that has just been filled with silicone.
Expansion joint profiles with alfer®-fix universal hole pattern
Expansion joints in tile coverings are thus necessary whenever you tile on differing substrates, e.g. in corner areas near walls. Even if the substrate already has expansion joints or the tile covering is subject to severe tension. That is the case with under floor heating (span length max. 8 m*), hallways (which are more than three times longer than the width*), walls (vertical expansion joints every 3 m*), and patio flooring (every 2.5 m*).
Our expansion joint profiles are made of a high quality soft synthetic material in the joint area, which absorbs any tension. On the underside of the expansion joint profile there is an adhesive strip that prevents mortar from penetrating during the laying process. This means the profile can be quickly and easily fixed to the floor. Make sure when installing that the profile does not stick out beyond the flooring!
This characteristic means that the expansion joint profile has yet another benefit or an additional possibility for use: after careful separation of the adhesive tape the profile can be bent around the soft plastic (here shown in white) in corner areas.

Waterproof strips and joint covering profiles
Corners in wet places are among the most critical areas. Water must be prevented from penetrating. This is often done by grouting with silicone. Working with silicone is not easy and often only fulfils the sealing purpose, without making an attractive joint. The self-adhesive waterproof strips and joint covering profiles offer added protection, provide an overall attractive look, and are easy to install.
Waterproof strips are made of resistant plastic with osculating sealing lips. The special adhesive strip is simply applied to the waterproof strip, which then needs only to be stuck to a clean, dry surface free from grease.
clipstech® system profile
We have also developed an ideal profile solution to take care of extremely difficult demands. It consists of a stand-alone profile system with plastic support profiles of varying heights and decor profiles for every application. Almost all types of transitions, joints, and ends on tiles and other floor coverings can be produced with this system. Height differences of up to 22 mm, for example on renovation work, are no problem.
